MATCH RECAP: REIGN FK VS WOLVES FC
On a beautiful Wednesday night in Bartlesville, Oklahoma the Reign FK faced off against Arkansas rivals, Wolves FC. Each team went home with a single point as the match ended in a 3-3 draw here at Custer Stadium. A single point is always better than none, but when a second half stoppage time penalty becomes the deciding factor, the one point feels the same as zero.
The match started off with the Wolves keeping early possession of the ball amongst their back line of defense. Shortly after came the first goal of the match. A questionable missed offsides call, put into the back of the net off of the post from a Wolves forward. Reign responded quickly with a goal from Grant King, assisted from a cross by Jack Bratcher, and a brave initial header between Connor Marth and the Wolves goalkeeper, before it was calmly headed home by King.
Reign went on the take a 2-1 lead with another goal from King, assisted by a long ball over the top from Marth.
The entire game was physical and fast, but around the 60' of the game an arguable red card was shown to Oral Roberts University newcomer Jack Bratcher. The Reign would continue the remainder of the game a man down, presenting the players with an opportunity to show their true colors.
A gifted free kick to the Wolves on the outside edge of the box tied the game at 2-2 making the game feel out of reach for the home team, but not all was lost. With only 10 men, Reign immediately responded with a 60-yard run out of the back from Kolby Bauer who found Dwaylan McIntosh at the back post who buried the ball in the side net, putting Reign in the lead 3-2.
Then came the heartbreak... A stoppage time penalty kick given to the Wolves. King of the Match, goalkeeper Gage Powers got a hand on the shot, but it wasn't enough to keep the ball out of the back of the net, ending the match level at 3-3. The motto of the club rings true, "..the ups and downs are a given.."
